Brian Cook was very young when he learned that people need help. Brian didn’t know his birth dad. And, when he needed a parent most, he instead became a parent to his little brother.
That path can fork two ways; a life of need, looking for help, or a life of purpose, helping those in need. For Brian it was the latter, he is a helper.
Brian knew early that he wanted to be a cop and to serve, so he joined the Marines and the military police. He met a girl, got her pregnant, married her, followed her to Memphis – where he was hired by the local police force – they had a son, divorced soon after and he became a single dad with sole custody of his son, the child’s mother having too many struggles to co-parent.
For Brian being a cop meant he could save the world, help people, and put bad guys away but he wasn’t on the job long before he realized that he wasn’t doing anybody any good, every day was the same; rife with danger and disappointment.

In 2000 Brian was involved in what Memphis newspapers described as “one of the city’s most deadly days”. An ambush left several people dead and Brian with a line through his hair where a gunshot, as he puts it, “nicked’ him, and the clear realization; I cannot do this for 20 more years.
He looked for a way out. He tried to get a pilot license – too expensive, he enrolled in college twice – dropped out twice. He was at a loss. He hoped for a sign, an angel. In 2003 he met her.
Her name was Michelle and it was love at first sight, for him. She needed some convincing as she had just divorced a police officer and was not in the market for another.
Michelle was studying to be a child psychologist when she was dragged to a direct marketing party. To say that evening changed her life would be an understatement.

Long story short, Michelle is a legend in Direct Sales. Brian will tell you he didn’t really pay attention to what she was doing – leaving to host some party with a load of products and coming home with a load of money – until she said she wasn’t going back to school. When she went at it full time Brian decided to give it a go and soon after they were doing very well and Brian quit the police force.

But it wasn’t the selling that Brian loved, it was helping people achieve their goals that gave him the most joy. His personal experiences have taught him that gratitude above all else, is the key to growth. He is grateful to have found a way to live in peace with PTSD, grateful that he found Michelle, grateful that he and Michelle have the time and the means to care for their 3 adorable adopted children with special needs.
Brian’s life-long desire to serve and to help found its focus. He and Michelle started Empowering Humans a program they developed to help people find their power and to be empowered through one-on-one and group coaching and helping people grow their business through digital marketing.
Brian went a different route in his journey to serve. He started a digital media consulting company to help people grow their businesses online, using all the tools available. Learn more by visiting

Would Brian have preferred a different childhood, a more loving start to his life, an easier path through those early years? He thinks about that from time to time but knows that his journey brought him to this moment. And for that he is grateful.
